Connect Open WebUI

Add looot as an MCP external tool server in Open WebUI. Needs v0.6.31 or later.

MCP over Streamable HTTP at https://api.looot.ai/mcp

Open WebUI is a self-hosted chat front end. Native MCP support is Streamable HTTP only and arrived in v0.6.31, which is looot’s transport. An admin adds the connection.

Before you start you need a looot account. The runs you make spend the organization’s balance, so top up before your first paid run. See Before your first run.

Steps

  1. As an admin, open Settings, Admin, Integrations. Under External Tool Servers, click + Add Connection.
  2. Set Type to MCP (Streamable HTTP).
  3. Enter the URL https://api.looot.ai/mcp and a name such as looot.
  4. Set Auth to OAuth 2.1 (dynamic client registration if offered, static otherwise) and save.
  5. In a chat, enable the tool for that chat and sign in when asked.

The server URL is https://api.looot.ai/mcp.

Sign-in

Open WebUI supports OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration or with a static client, plus bearer tokens. Use OAuth so each user signs in on looot.ai and picks the organization to bill. With a static client you must register it yourself first, which is why dynamic registration is easier.

Check it works

Ask Open WebUI to call balance or catalog_overview. Both are free. A working connection answers with your available balance, or the catalog’s categories and job counts.

A first prompt to try

Ask looot for my balance, then search its catalog for a tool that finds a work email from a name and company domain, and show me the price before running anything.

Troubleshooting

  • Connection type missing: you are below v0.6.31. Update first.
  • A tool that uses OAuth 2.1 and is set as a model’s default tool can fail. Remove it from the model’s default tools and enable it per chat (a known Open WebUI limit).
  • Open WebUI must reach api.looot.ai from the server, not just from your browser.
  • Still stuck: see Troubleshooting.

What you see when you connect

If the client uses browser sign-in, it opens looot.ai and shows the consent page: which organization to bill, which scopes to grant and how long to stay connected. See The consent page.
