Access real-time news articles from Google News with a lightweight implementation optimized for performance. This API provides structured access to news articles, top stories, and pagination from Google News search results with minimal overhead. It offers the same core functionality as the standard Google News API but with optimized performance characteristics. **Cross-linking**: Results from this API can be used with other Google APIs for deeper insights. For example, you can use article URLs with the Google Light API for additional search context.

- **Tool id:** `searchapi-io-google-news-light`
- **Provider:** [SearchAPI.io](/providers/searchapi-io)
- **Job:** [Google news light search](/reference/jobs/search-google-news-light) (`search.google-news-light`)
- **Price:** $0.004 per call. A call that fails at the provider costs $0.

## Inputs

| Name | Type | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `engine` | string | no | Fixed to "google_news_light" for this endpoint. Example: "google_news_light" |
| `filter` | string | no |   |
| `gl` | string | no |   |
| `hl` | string | no |   |
| `location` | string | no |   |
| `nfpr` | string | no |   |
| `page` | integer | no |   |
| `q` | string | yes |   |
| `sort_by` | string | no |   |
| `time_period` | string | no |   |
| `uule` | string | no |   |

## Output

The run's `result` holds the provider's answer. Signed in, `looot inspect searchapi-io-google-news-light` prints its fields.

## Run it

Every call needs your API token in `LOOOT_TOKEN`; [Sign in](/get-started/sign-in#use-the-token-in-scripts-and-agents) shows how to get one. Each run also needs a new idempotency key, so a retry never pays twice. With `wait: 30` the answer comes back inline when the run ends within 30 seconds. Otherwise you get the running run back: poll `GET /v1/runs/<runId>`.

Example input with placeholder values:

```bash curl
curl -X POST "https://api.looot.ai/v1/runs" \
  -d '{"endpointId":"searchapi-io-google-news-light","input":{"q":"<q>","engine":"google_news_light"},"wait":30}'
```

```js JavaScript
const response = await fetch("https://api.looot.ai/v1/runs", {
To let looot pick among every provider of this job instead, send `job:search.google-news-light` as `endpointId`; see [the job page](/reference/jobs/search-google-news-light).
