:::note
These steps follow the client's own MCP documentation, linked in Sources below. looot has not tested them in this client yet. If a step fails, tell us on the [support page](/support).
:::

Continue is an open-source assistant for VS Code and JetBrains. MCP servers are available in agent mode only.

Before you start you need a looot account. The runs you make spend the organization's balance, so
top up before your first paid run. See [Before your first run](/money#before-your-first-run).

## Steps

1. Create `.continue/mcpServers/looot.yaml` in your workspace, or add the block to `.continue/config.yaml`.
2. Switch Continue to **agent** mode and reload the config.

```yaml
name: looot
version: 0.0.1
schema: v1
mcpServers:
  - name: looot
    type: streamable-http
    url: https://api.looot.ai/mcp
```

The server URL is `https://api.looot.ai/mcp`.

## Sign-in

Continue's MCP page does not describe a browser sign-in for remote servers, so OAuth sign-in is not confirmed for this client. If the server answers 401, either bridge the sign-in through [mcp-remote](/connect/mcp-remote), or create an agent token in [Settings](https://looot.ai/settings) and inject it with Continue's secrets support (`${{ secrets.LOOOT_TOKEN }}`). Never commit the token.

## Check it works

Ask Continue to call [`balance`](/mcp-tools/balance) or [`catalog_overview`](/mcp-tools/catalog-overview). Both are free. A working connection answers
with your available balance, or the catalog's categories and job counts.

## A first prompt to try

```text
Ask looot for my balance, then search its catalog for a tool that finds a work email from a name and company domain, and show me the price before running anything.
```

## Troubleshooting

- No tools appear: you are not in agent mode.
- Standalone files in `.continue/mcpServers/` need the `name`, `version` and `schema` header lines.
- A 401 means the client sent no token; see the OAuth note.
- Still stuck: see [Troubleshooting](/connect/troubleshooting).

## What you see when you connect

If the client uses browser sign-in, it opens looot.ai and shows the consent page: which organization to bill,
which scopes to grant and how long to stay connected. See [The consent page](/connect#the-consent-page).
